The Secret to Better Blowdries

Why is it that your hair never quite looks the same at home as it does when you leave the salon? You can use the same products, the same dryer, even follow the same steps… and still, it’s just not giving that smooth, bouncy finish.

Most of the time, it comes down to one simple thing, the brush.

A proper blowdry brush isn’t just an extra step, it’s what actually creates the shape and tension. And if you’ve ever felt a bit intimidated by different sizes or unsure how to hold and rotate it properly, that’s completely normal. It can feel like there’s a technique you’ve somehow missed but really, it’s about using the right brush and giving yourself a bit of practice.

That’s exactly why we designed our brushes to do some of the work for you. The long, rubber-gripped handle helps you hold and rotate with control (no slipping mid-blowdry), while the wide honeycomb vents allow better airflow so the hair dries faster and sets properly. The ceramic barrel distributes heat evenly for a smoother, shinier finish, and the extra-long bristles grip more hair, making the whole process easier and quicker.

Once you’ve got the right tool in your hand, everything else starts to click and that’s where brush size comes in.  The size of your brush changes everything: the tension you get, how smooth your hair dries, and whether you end up with volume, bounce or a sleeker finish.

Starting with Small 25mm brush is ideal for medium to short hair, especially if you’re trying to smooth frizz or get a really polished finish. The smaller barrel gives you stronger tension, so you can grip the hair properly, smooth out those fuzzy bits and stay in control while drying. It’s also perfect for adding a bit of movement without losing that sleek feel.

Next is the Medium 33mm this one works beautifully on medium to short hair if you want shine and volume without going too curly. The tension is more balanced, making it easier to use if you’re still building confidence with your blowdry.

Then you’ve got the Large 43mm, which is where that sleek, bouncy blowdry really starts to happen. Best for longer hair, it creates a smooth finish with soft volume and movement. Because the barrel is larger, the hair wraps more loosely, so you get bounce instead of tight shaping.

Finally, the Extra Large 53mm is made for long, thick hair and that effortless, airy look. The tension is lighter, which lets you smooth the hair without overworking it. This is what gives you that big, soft, salon-style finish that feels full but still natural.

At the end of the day, it’s not about being a pro it’s about using the right size for the result you want and if you’re doing your blowdry at home, these are the things that really make the difference:

  • Section your hair properly before you start, this is non-negotiable. Clean sections = a smoother, more controlled finish.  Our Alligator clips are perfect for this, and can even hold up thick hair with just one clip!
  • Start with hair that’s about 80% dry, not soaking wet
  • Work in smaller sections than you think you need for a more polished result
  • Always keep tension on the hair, that’s what creates the smoothness
  • Keep your dryer nozzle pointing down the hair shaft to boost shine and reduce frizz
  • Let each section cool on the brush before dropping it, this is what sets the shape

That’s what we’re all about at The Belle Brush, making good, healthy hair feel simple and achievable.
